Cardopatium corymbosum (L.) Pers.
Robust perennial herb with a stout taproot crowned by fibrous leaf remains. Cauline leaves in a rosette, oblong-oblanceolate in outline, pinnate or pinnatisect with coriaceous, strongly spiny-dentate lobes. Stem stout, erect, 15–40 cm, corymbosely branched above into a dense, dome-shaped cluster of numerous, bright blue capitula. Involucre c. 10 mm, narrowly ovoid; phyllaries tough, pectinate-spinose. Florets tubular. Achenes sericeous, with pappus of membranous scales.
