Aeluropus littoralis (Gouan) Parl.
Rhizomatous perennial with prostrate, stoloniferous stems producing small tufts of suberect culms 5–20 cm; whole plant greyish-green or glaucous. Leaves on sterile shoots distichously arranged, patent. Ligule replaced by a rim of hairs. Leaf blade short (usually 2–4 cm), linear-lanceolate, tough, with numerous strong, scabridulous veins on the upper surface. Spikelets c. 4 mm, 4–9-flowered, laterally compressed, distichously arranged in dense clusters to form a narrow panicle, pale greenish. Glumes slightly unequal, the longest c. 2 mm, scabridulous on keel, acute. Lemmas keeled, mucronate, glabrous.
