Πίκνομον το ακαρνανικό (Picnomon acarna (L.) Cass.)

Erect annual, usually 25–70 cm tall, sparingly branched at least above, ± arachnoid-tomentose throughout. Stem conspicuously winged; wings with slender, patent spines. Leaves lanceolate, often recurved-arcuate, pinnatifid to subentire, with long, patent, yellowish marginal spines. Capitula in terminal clusters of (1–)2–7, overtopped by subtending leaves. Involucre cylindrical; outer and middle phyllaries lanate, spine-tipped or pectinate-spinose. Florets tubular, pinkish. Achenes c. 6 mm, narrowly obovoid, somewhat compressed, pale brown, smooth and shiny, with pappus of long, plumose hairs.
