Lactuca tuberosa Jacq. x Streptorhamphus tuberosus
Almost glabrous, ± glaucous or purple-tinged perennial, with a tuberous or cylindrical, vertical rootstock. Stem erect, 25–70 cm tall. Leaves amplexicaul, runcinate-pinnatifid. Capitula solitary or paired on curved peduncles 2–4 cm long, with scale-like leaves, forming a lax inflorescence. Involucre 18–30 mm, cylindrical; phyllaries imbricate. Ligules numerous, c. 25 mm, pale yellow, contrasting with purple anther tube and bright yellow style. Body of achene c. 6 mm, strongly compressed, elliptical, dark reddish-brown to blackish, abruptly contracted into slender, pale beak about as long as body.
