Subglabrous perennial with a cluster of fusiform to clavate root tubers mixed with fibrous roots. Plant 5–25 cm tall, with decumbent to erect stems, sometimes rooting at the lower nodes, dying back rapidly after flowering. Basal leaves long-petiolate; blade broadly ovate to reniform, subentire to shallowly crenate-serrate, bright green and shiny on upper surface. Flowers solitary on long pedicels. Sepals 3. Petals (6–)8–12, 10–22 mm long, broadly oblong-elliptical, bright shining yellow above, greenish-yellow beneath. Fruiting head subglobose or often poorly developed. Achenes scarcely compressed, ± pubescent.
